Choosing the right retirement village

There’s a lot to consider. Most importantly, where will you feel most settled and, at home. Here’s some helpful advice to guide you in your decision making.

Start by taking a broad overview by thinking about what sort of environment you are looking for; how active you want your village life to be and what sort of people you would most like to be surrounded by.

The next thing to consider is what sort of accommodation you would like to live in. Each retirement village offers different amenities and communal facilities that may or may not be important to you, so take the time to consider what would work best for you now and what facilities they have as your needs change in the future.

Another important consideration is what you want to take with you.

Think about the things that are dear to you, but also the space you will have. Before the move, only have around you the things you are taking. This way you can see if there is anything that you have missed and notably it will give you time to make sure you are being realistic about what you want to take with you. Allow time to go through your things. It can be an opportunity to reminisce, step down memory lane, and share family stories.

Taking a stroll around a retirement village, and talking to some of the residents, is an essential part of choosing your ideal location.  The residents will have some great insights, and you’ll get a sense of how friendly and welcoming the existing residents are. It’s also the best way to see the difference between a retirement and rest home facility.

At Matua Village we are set on ten acres of thoughtfully designed and landscaped grounds. Our beautiful gardens and strategically placed sculptures emulate the atmosphere that surrounds the village; friendly and welcoming and we have the choice of cottages, studios or apartments and one, two, and three-bedroom options.

Our culture promotes individuality and supports independent living. Our friendly team are here to help with anything you might need, but ultimately to respect your privacy and allow you to thrive in your retirement.

We have a full activities program so that you can choose to be active as you wish.  Whether you participate in all, one or two, or none. It’s totally up to you.

Moving to a retirement village is the beginning of a whole new chapter of your life and if you have planned it, then it is a lot less unsettling. The decision you make on which village is right for you should give you security, peace of mind, and importantly a feeling of positive anticipation for the new community that you will immerse yourself in and feel a strong sense of belonging to.  After all you are choosing your new home.

If living in the heart of Matua appeals, if being surrounded by a close-knit family of residents and staff matters to you and if you’re looking for a place where you can choose your pace, we’d love to share our home with you.
