Planning the move to a retirement village – don’t leave it too late

Moving house can be daunting, but what about moving to a retirement village!

For the really savvy this is a first step in their retirement plan to ensure they get the most out of their retirement journey. So often we hear from our residents at Matua Village that they “should have made the move years ago” and that they “don’t know why they waited so long.”

So, what held them back? The most common reason was the preconceived idea that a retirement village signalled a significant loss of independence.

However, on making the move, they found quite the opposite, discovering it was more about independent living in a community of like-minded people, with the security of knowing that there is additional support available when and if they need it.

The other benefit of moving in ‘before it’s too late’ is that you’re able to settle in and really create a new home and become a part of the community around you.  Yes, it usually means downsizing, moving away from neighbours and friends you have known for years and starting afresh in a whole new community.  But the upside is that you can still stay connected with your friends outside of the village, while you enjoy exploring your new community, visiting your new neighbours, making friends, going on outings, participating in activities and really engaging with those around you.

A retirement village, unlike a rest home, attracts residents who still want to be and can be as active and as social as they wish to be.

Not all retirement villages are the same though, so choosing the right one for you is important.

Come, discover the Matua Village way.
