Staying connected and feeling valued

When you retire your life changes. You are no longer ruled by conventional work hours and structure, and you have the time you have always wanted to pursue your interests, travel, and learn new things.

It’s exciting at first, however, sometimes the excitement wanes, time passes, and before you know it you realise that retirement was not quite as you imagined. Your partner or close friends are no longer with you, family are busy or moved away, your social life is slowing, and you feel yourself disconnecting.

Beyond the tangible health benefits, staying connected through social interactions fulfils a basic human need of belonging and purpose. Cultivating meaningful relationships takes time, effort, and reciprocity but by actively engaging with others, we deepen our connections and feel a sense of value.

At Matua Village we recognise the importance connection and value plays in healthy ageing.   We see our residents find renewed purpose and vitality as they engage on our outings, activities, and social occasions.

Our small community of likeminded people has neighbours interacting with each other, residents calling out to each other as they set off with the walking group, or laughter pealing out as the health and fitness class gets underway.

A retirement village is about community, feeling a sense of belonging, security, and care.

At Matua Village it is important to us that our residents feel confident and supported in their daily living and we strive to create an atmosphere and lifestyle that is friendly and welcoming.

There are many things to keep you connected while living at Matua Village, but how you choose to spend your time is always up to you.
